23 juli the sign arrives:)so, another Sunday passes by. it was quite quiet yesterday compared to previous Sundays but we still hit our average takings target so was ok.
we got a bit more done to the frontage over the weekend and im just working on Boon to get him up the ladder to get the woodstain on before the really heavy rain comes.
our light box sign also arrived today and will hopefully be fitted tomorrow when they do the roof extension to the awning.
we had a parade go past this morning which was apparently part of marking the coming of the heavy rains. 19 juli The Brick Road Cafe, chiang mai....praying for patienceAs intergrated into Thai live as I like to think I am I do sometimes struggle with old Western impatience.
The improvements we are making to the frontage, to my mind could be done in two days max, and i hoped would have been completed by now , but alas not.
hopefully the wood surroud planned, will go up tomorrow b, but i'm not holding my breath.
we do need it done as the extension to the awning is scheduled for saturday and the wood needs to be up first.
we shall see.
as my anxiety started to rise , i took time out and popped into the Temple yesterday for some meditation time and came away with a much more Buddhist perspective on the whole thing and am no longer allowing the delays to bother me.
had a quiet day today but did have a couple of our regulars in and also a mum and 3 daughters from Bristol who were a lovely family and we had a good old chat.
in the Temple grounds of Wat Chedi Luang , behind the cafe, there are alot of reconstruction works going on and i've started taking photos f the daily progress; see the first ones today:) 16 juli Busy at The Brick Road Cafe Chiang Maiwell its been a great couple of days , business wise. very tiring but exciting too. nuff said for now cos i'm knackered. 14 juli The Brick Road Cafe....day offwell a partial day off.
thing is we still havent cleared the house in Pong Noi so we decided to close for the day and get some of that done.
Boon was actually working with his brother for most of the day in the end so i did 5 trips on the motorcy and cart and brought over most of the stuff we want over here,; the rest we will store at Boons shop.
so we've got a few more plants out front here now , which is nice.
im just really looking forward to the changes next week, which will hopefully make the place look really special.
got to chat to my mate Tristan today on messenger, just after we'd opened up. we havent spoken for ages and im chuffed we did at long last.
special prayer session at the temple tomorrow i think.
had to go down in the end as we got quite busy and actually did almost as well as when we open all day.
back to normal hours tommorrow so hope its another good one with the sunday market 11 juli The Brick Road Cafe Chiang Mai ..still improving.well our improvements moved on a little more today with the addition of guttering on one side of our outside awning, which will hopefully make the seating outside dryer when the rain comes. we also have a load of wood to fix up the sides of the outside to add to the aesthetics. the outside fan still waits to be fitted , but soon soon:)
we have also had stickers made to start advertising the names and a lovely couple of girls from the states were the first to stick them on their backpacks:)
we also had a visit from an american guy, Guy, around my age , who was very complimentary about my pork and apple burger and promised to write up on the cafe on his blog.
so although its been quite a quiet day business wise, its been a good day in my eyes.
we also had a third visit from a french couple, regulars for chicken burger and chips, who left their bag behind. Somboon went searching for them, without any luck. But they came back later for pizza and a pork steak and chips, so they got it back in the end.
check photo section to see our sticker:) 09 juli The Brick Road Cafe, Chiang Mai, *special* Lamb Lasagne, get it while u can:)The rainy season creeps on in and threatened to wash out the sunday market yesterday afternoon, but thankfully it cleared and we had a reasonable day.
today by contrast has been very quiet but i'm glad cos we were open till 11 last night and i was giving an impromptu flute and bongo performance to our Caribau cds, outside after we'd broufght the tables in. dont know why, i was just buzzing last night.
check the photos for Sunday Market in the rain. 08 juli The Brick Road Cafe, Chiang Maiso Sunday morning, just opening but if things are as usual it will quiet early on and then get busy in the afternoon when the street market starts.
yesterday we started making stickers for wording in the shop front windows and also on the small light box we had, on which i put Fish and Chips, which seemed to work straight away as we had a Brit customer about an hour after i put the letters up saying it was the sign that brought him in:)
In deed we had a few customers for fish and chips yesterday and are now a little short on fish, just hope we dont get a mad rush on it tonight. A lesson in watching my stock levels a bit more closely.
You'll see a couple more of our Thai dishes in the photos album today:)
07 juli The Brick Road Cafe Chiang MaiBeen quite steady the last couple of days and I think the word is going to get around the fish and chips:)
this is just a short note as its late, but things are good . more food photos tommorrow 05 juli The Brick Road Cafe Chiang Mai..i get a piece of spiritual historytoday i woke up to a loud thud from behind the cafe.
on getting up it turned out that they were chopping down one of the trees near to the back gate, not sure if the thud was from that or, why they were cutting it.
at the end of their day i popped in to ask if i could buy a piece of the fallen tree and was chuffed when they told me to choose the piece i wanted and let me have it for free.
i now plan to use it for a meditation exercise and carve a buddha image from it.....if i can.
the cafe was quiet again in the daytime but once again we had a busy evening, although it was all pizza and not from our menu apart from the drinks, still we did well out of that.
the guitar proved popular again, this time with a group of thai girls, one of whom played very nicely, shame the battery on my camera was flat. 04 juli The Brick Road Cafe..Chiang Mai..quiet day, thats what i thoughtim buzzing abit right now.
it had been looking like a really quiet day and all of a sudden as evening creapt in, we filled up. One party of brits came and rearranged the furniture so they could all sit together, 7 or 8 of them.
highlight of the night for me was Will, a lovely guy from the cotswolds, who popped in for pizza and ended up staying till around 10.30, entertaining us on the guitar,. If youre reading this Will , your photo will be up tomorrow, left the camera down stairs and cant be arsed to go get it right now. He's in CM for 5 more days and we'll hopefully see him again. Really enjoyed the chin wag Will..knowing how travel goes if you dont make it back here, all the best ...and follow that dream. THe Brick road Cafe , Ratchadamneon rd, Chiang Maiwell we're having a quiet day today but have been reasonably steady since last friday.
i added to the decor with some more things from the sunday market.
had some interesting customers who i've had good chats with, including Mac, an Australian guy and a lovely couple of Israeli girls who came a couple of days ago and returned today for more fish and chips before heading on their way to Nepal, sorry girls i darent try spell your names so please email me so i can get it right;; hope you have a great trip:)
i have at last produced the Brick road Lamburger, in two varieties, minted and a special rosemary marinade, details of which will remain a secret as its my own recipe, but i tried one today and its to die for, aloi mak mak! |
